Frozen Trimming

Freeze trimming is a post - processing method commonly used in the manufacturing industry, especially for products made of rubber, plastic, or similar materials.

In this process, the molded parts with excess material (such as flash) are exposed to extremely low temperatures. This is typically achieved by using liquid nitrogen or other cryogenic substances. As the part is cooled, the flash becomes brittle while the main part of the product remains relatively more flexible due to its different material properties.

After reaching the appropriate low temperature, the parts are then subjected to mechanical action, such as tumbling in a chamber filled with small abrasive media. The brittle flash breaks off easily under this mechanical impact, leaving the product with a clean, finished edge. Freeze trimming offers advantages like high precision, consistent results, and the ability to process a large number of parts in a relatively short time, contributing to enhanced product quality and production efficiency.
